Apply for this role ↗WHY WILDFIRE
The honest conversations have moved.
They're not happening in feeds anymore, they're happening in Discord servers, subreddits and in-game communities run by people who've earned the trust of millions, and brands can't buy their way in without us.
Wildfire is the community media network. 500+ independent communities, 56M+ people, one managed buy, and every campaign runs in the voice of the community manager so the brand turns up as part of the conversation rather than the thing interrupting it.
We've done 1,200 of these now for the likes of Netflix, Samsung, Intel, PlayStation, Robinhood, Qatar Airways and 7-Eleven, and the results are the kind that get us booked again.
Community media is the thing in between media and influencer that most planners don't have a playbook for yet. That's fine, most hadn't heard of influencer marketing in 2015 either.
- 500+ community publishers, 56M+ combined reach
- Live on Discord, Reddit and Fortnite
- 1,200 activations since 2022
THE ROLE
Wildfire is becoming a true community media network across multiple platforms and I need a second seller in the US to be our man or woman on the ground. You'll be in New York, I am already out there every few months, and between us we'll be in front of more agencies and brands than I can get to on my own.
This is an in-person selling job. Most of your week is spent inside media agencies and with brands, not at a desk. Getting in the room, running the meeting, pitching the idea, hosting the lunch and learn, having the coffee afterwards.
We've developed processes and resource internally so that you can spend your time where it counts: in front of people.
You'd be working with me directly. I'm a hands-on founder and I'll be in a lot of the rooms with you, especially early on, but you carry your own number on meetings booked, briefs into the pipe and revenue closed from day one.
WHAT AI CHANGES
A year ago a seller here spent most of their week on outreach, proposals, follow ups and admin. The bottleneck has moved from doing the work to deciding what's worth doing, and then being in the room to do it.
That makes this a generalist's job as much as a seller's. Keeping a lot of things moving at once is now a real skill, and the people who do well here are the ones who treat every part of the job as something to improve rather than something to get through.
So the questions I'll be asking in a year aren't just "what did you close". They're things like:
- What did you build for a lunch and learn that made a room of planners actually remember us?
- What's the proactive pitch workflow you set up, so an idea lands with a brand before the brief exists?
- What's the outreach play you invented that nobody else in the market is running?
- Which custom presentation got a client to say yes when a standard deck wouldn't have?
HOW WE WORK
Think top sports team. High trust, the highest standards, and honest about fit.
- Front line. Targeted on in-person meetings, briefs and revenue, every quarter. Nobody here is above the pitch, me included.
- Fast. In front of buyers in your first few weeks.
- Hands on and high standards. You make your own decks and plans and you're a bit obsessed with getting them right. Sloppy, off-brand slides and a plan that doesn't add up are the quickest way to lose a buyer's trust and we don't do them.
- AI first. If you aren't excited by using AI to multiply yourself, this isn't the role for you.
- Clear on fit. If it isn't working we'll both know quickly and we'll part ways fairly. If it is working the upside is big: equity in a company I intend to run for a long time, and a seat at the table as we build the team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Get in the room. Be in the offices, physically. Seven in-person meetings a week with media agencies and brands across but not limited to gaming, entertainment and consumer tech. We will expect you to have relationships in these industries.
- Pitch. Present Wildfire and present ideas. Interactive lunch and learns, agency sessions, casual coffees, brief responses, the lot. You relish the performance!
- Respond to briefs. Turn a brief into a deck, a media plan and a covering email, fast, using our internal tools and resource, and get it back before the competition does.
- Follow up like it matters. Every meeting gets a proper follow up with a proof point or an idea in it, not a nudge.
- Events. In-person is more important than ever – you excel at industry events.
- Grow accounts. Turn a $25K test into a repeat client, and a repeat client into a bigger one.
Your first 12 months
You'll have a number on meetings, briefs and revenue from month one, and we'll set it together.
Around that, the shape looks like this.
- Day 30: you know the product cold, you've built your first deck and plan with our skills, and you've run your first meetings with me in the room.
- Day 90: you're doing seven meetings a week in person without me, briefs are coming in from relationships you opened, and we've done our first event together.
- Month 6: your first repeat client, and a pipeline that doesn't need me in it to move.
- Month 12: you're one of the reasons the year worked, and we're looking ahead to the years in front of us and talking about who you hire next.
ABOUT YOU
- A presenter. You're good in a room. You can hold a group of planners for 60 minutes, read what's landing and what isn't, and leave with a next step. You'd rather be in someone's office than on a call with them.
- Good company. The person everyone wants at the table. Buyers want another drink with you and then they want to work with you, because that's how deals actually get closed here, on relationships you've built. We'll be doing events together and life's too short not to enjoy work so it's key for both of us that we get along (very important).
- Hungry and entrepreneurial. You want to build something of your own and get hands-on experience of it, you want uncapped earnings and equity in it, and you'd rather be the second seller at a company that's going somewhere than the tenth at one that already has.
- Sharp. Good degree or equivalent proof, and opinions worth arguing with.
- Capable at most things you do, with at least one extraordinary achievement in anything.
- High standards in the work. Decks you'd be proud to put your name on, media plans that add up, data you've actually checked. You're already using AI to do this better and faster than your peers.
- On top of everything. Inbox and Slack under control, nothing slips, every follow up goes out.
- Scrappy. You've made things happen without a big logo or a support team behind you, and you've got range: you can run a room in the morning, build a deck at lunch, prompt your way through a new tool in the afternoon and ship something small and clever by Friday.
- Gaming native. You know Fortnite, Roblox, Discord, Reddit and the creator world as a player and a fan, not just from a deck. If you've done something extraordinary somewhere else and you'd learn this fast, apply anyway.
- All in. Travel, events, fast responses when deals are moving. You actually want that.
EXPERIENCE
Around 5 years, give or take, and I'm open-minded on where you've spent them. The obvious route is selling media or partnerships in gaming, entertainment or the creator space, as an AE or Senior AE at a gaming media company, a creator agency or an esports org, or a few years into a platform sales team.
But a planner who's bored of buying and wants to sell, a creator manager who's great with brands, or someone who ran a small business and knows what a hard yes feels like could all work. What matters is that you've closed deals, you can hold a room, and you've got range.
What I'd expect to see:
- Deals you've closed yourself. $25K to $100K agency-briefed campaigns, ideally some brand direct too. I'll ask you to walk me through one.
- Decks and plans you've made yourself. Not the team's, yours. Bring them.
- Agency relationships at planner and supervisor level in New York, and a sense of how a brief turns into a booking.
- Specific experience. You've worked somewhere with under 20 employees, extra points if you've built something of your own on the side.
COMP
- Base: $100,000
- Commission: $100K at target on the revenue you close, uncapped
- Equity: yes, and we'll talk specifics early
- Location: New York
HIRING PROCESS
If someone I rate sends you my way, great. Either way, everyone goes through the same process and the application is short.
To apply: your LinkedIn or CV, two answers of up to 200 words each, and one of up to 100.
- Tell me about a deal you closed because of a relationship you built, not a brief you were sent.
- What would you build for your first lunch and learn?
- What's the most extraordinary thing you've done in your life? Anything counts, and if there's more than one, tell me.
Then:
- A conversation with me
- A longer walk through your career, and the most extraordinary things you've done
- The live pitch: a real brief and our candidate pack, three hours of your time with whatever tools you like, then you present it to me in person in New York as the buyer and take questions
- Meeting in person & virtually with the team / shareholders
- References, ideally from people who've bought from you
Timing: conversations through November, finals in New York in early December, starting early 2027.
Drop me a note and we can go from there.
